Ungkapan-Ungkapan Penting dalam Public Speaking Important Expressions in Public Speaking

Abstract
Dalam keseharian, banyak orang sering dihadapkan pada kesempatan untuk berbicara di depan umum, terlebih ketika mereka telah terjun di masyarakat. Namun, pada kenyataannya dalam permulaan ketika berbicara di muka umum (public speaking), mereka sering kali menemui kesulitan. Kesulitan tersebut tampak pada penyusunan kalimat ataupun struktur dari materi yang akan disampaikan. Hal tersebut nantinya dapat berimbas pada kepercayaan diri yang menurun saat tampil. Artikel ini berisi tentang ungkapan-ungkapan yang dapat digunakan dalam mempelajari Public Speaking antara lain: opening/ pembukaan (welcoming/ salam pembuka), introducing topic/ memperkenalkan topik, signposting/ outlining), making transition between ideas/ memberi ungkapan transisi diantara ide-ide, emphasizing points/ menekankan ide-ide, inviting participation and discussion/ mengundang partisipasi dan diskusi, clarifying other’s comments/ mengklarifikasi pendapat orang lain, emphasizing points/ menekankan suatu hal, giving examples/ memberi contoh-contoh, summarizing and concluding/ merangkum dan menyimpulkan dan interrupting or rejecting conversation/ menginterupsi atau menyela percakapan. Dengan adanya ungkapan-ungkapan penting tersebut, diharapkan dapat menjadi panduan untuk melakukan sebuah presentasi yang efektif dan membantu dalam memperbaiki kemampuan berbicara di depan umum.

Abstract
In everyday life, People are often faced with the opportunity to speak in public, especially when they have entered the community. However, in reality the process as a beginner in speaking in public (public speaking), they often encounter difficulties. The difficulty appears on the preparation of a sentence or the structure of the material to be delivered. This article contains expressions that can be used in studying public speaking. There are so many expressions presented in a particular topics including opening (welcoming, introducing topic, signposting/ outlining), making transition between ideas, emphasizing points, inviting participation and discussion, clarifying other’s comments, emphasizing points, giving examples, interrupting or rejecting conversation and summarizing and concluding. With the existence of these important phrases, is expected to be a guide for doing an effective presentation and helping people to improve their public speaking ability.
