Abstract

This research was conducted based on an initial study that provided the ability to understand science concepts to fourth grade students which was still low based on the results of interviews with fourth grade teachers. The purpose of this study is to improve understanding of science concepts by using the Kemmis and Mc Taggart CAR research design. Data collection methods used are interviews, observation, documentation, and tests. The data analysis technique uses a flow model with three stages, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Before taking action, the researcher conducted a pre-cycle and the results of the pre-cycle required action to improve students' understanding of science concepts. Then the researchers took action in cycle 1 with a completeness percentage of 46%, this is still low. The researcher conducted cycle 2 with 100% completeness percentage and it can be concluded that the application of Pop Up Book media can improve concept understanding as evidenced by the average value at the pre-cycle stage 47.27, cycle 1 the average value is 59.54, and cycle 2 average value 80.
